Transcription: Venipuncture is a technique in which a vein is punctured through the skin with a sharp instrument carrying a flexible plastic catheter or by a steel needle attached to a syringe or catheter. It is commonly performed on the arm or back of the hand. The site is cleaned and held tight. The needle is inserted at a 30 degree angle with the bevel up in the direction of the blood flow. After, a sterile dressing is placed over the site to prevent infection.
